Scots Whay Hae! has joined forces with our good friends at Into Creative to present Scots Whay Hae! & Into Creative x Conversations, a series where Ali catches up with creative characters of all kinds to talk about their life and work. Over the series we hope to build up an archive of cultural exchanges which give unique insight into some of the most interesting and inventive artists at work today.
The second episode is with writer and researcher Gillian Shirreffs to discuss her critically acclaimed debut novel Brodie (right - published by Into Books), and the two discuss the inspiration for, and the ingenious premise of, the book, what drives Gillian's fiction, and a lot more.
Gillian also talks about how her own life fed into Brodie, gaining a Doctorate in Creative Writing from the University of Glasgow and the support she found there, her thoughts on the response from readers, and why all proceeds from the book will be going to the Beatson Cancer Charity.
It was such a pleasure to talk to Gillian about what was undoubtedly one of the debuts novels of 2023, and we hope you enjoy the conversation...
