I finally got round to viewing the John Byrne exhibition at Trongate 103 in Glasgow. As folk who have regularly read this blog will know I’m a huge fan, and the ‘Corner Boys’ collection in particular is just fantastic. This was also the first time I had ventured into the new building, which houses The Glasgow Print Studio, Street Level and Transmission galleries, Project Ability and Cafe Cossachok. It’s a wonderful setting.
It’s also the new home of the Sharmanka kinetic gallery. For those of you who have never visited it is the collection of work by Russian sculptor Eduard Bersudsky. The sculptures are actually works of theatre and each piece tells its own story. I can highly recommend checking it out as it’s truly magical and unexpected. The work reminds me of Czech surrealist filmmaker Jan Svankmajer, best known for his 1988 version of Alice In Wonderland, and I find both oddly moving.
